1. Policy Statement

1.1. International Students enrolled at Oregon State University (“university”) must secure and maintain health insurance that:

1.1. Provides coverage during their entire stay in the United States, and

1.1.2. Meets certain minimum benefit requirements as determined by Student Health Services.

1.2. Student Health Services may establish varying benefit requirements for International Students based on factors such as a student’s length of stay in the United States, student status, or other criteria directly related to the benefit requirement.

2. Reason for Policy

2.1. Unlike many International Students’ countries of origin, the United States does not have a national health care system available to noninsured International Students, and any medical care costs are the responsibility of the student. 2.2. In order to assist the University in complying with federal regulations which require health insurance, and to promote a quality educational and cultural experience of International Students at the university, such students must demonstrate their ability to meet their financial responsibilities in full.

3.Scope & Audience

3.1. This University Policy applies to International Students enrolled part- or full-time at the university. All International Students and university employees must follow this University Policy.

4. Definitions

4.1. International student: Any student who is not a permanent resident or United States citizen enrolled part- or full-time at Oregon State University.

5. Responsibilities & Procedures
